What do I do if I see abnormal glucose readings?

Seeing unexpected or unusually high (or low) glucose readings can be confusing, but it doesn’t always mean something is wrong. Glucose levels naturally fluctuate throughout the day based on food, stress, sleep, and activity.

What to do if you notice readings that seem out of the ordinary

1. Check for app/sensor issues first

  • Make sure your sensor is properly applied and hasn’t loosened or fallen off.

  • Verify that the sensor is connected to the Nico app and syncing data correctly.

  • If your sensor recently activated, give it a few hours to stabilize, early readings can sometimes vary.

  • Clean the area gently and ensure there’s no excessive pressure or moisture on the sensor.

2. Consider what might have influenced the reading

  • Recent meals (especially high-carb or high-sugar foods)

  • Intense exercise or stress

  • Poor sleep or illness

  • Caffeine or alcohol intake

These factors can all temporarily raise or lower glucose levels, and they’re part of what Nico helps you understand.

3. Look for patterns, not single numbers

A single abnormal reading isn’t usually a concern. What matters most is how your glucose behaves over time. If your readings regularly stay outside expected ranges, that’s worth exploring further.

💡 Tip:
Instead of worrying about one unusual number, use it as a clue. Check what you ate, how you slept, or how stressed you were before the spike. Over time, these reflections help you build awareness and habits that naturally stabilize your glucose curve.
